Here is an Absolutely Beautiful 1-Piece GI59 Militia Coat Button ! This button dates to the 1830s. The front device is an eagle with shield at his side, seven stars above and six below, on a lined oval field, and a rope border on the outer edge. The silver plating is still stunning on this button, shining with luster. The reverse shows a raised mark in a depressed channel of “ .*. Imperial .*. Standard ,” and also retains its silver plate. 22mm. A Superb Example of an 1830s Silvered Militia Button that would be impossible to upgrade !

| Here is Another Beautiful Non-Dug AY57 Artillery Coat Button ! Patterned after the 1802-1821 US Artillery Corps button these are one-piece buttons. Device is an eagle on top of an artillery piece with a stack of cannon balls under the muzzle and the word CORPS at bottom. This button still retains 99% of its original lustrous gold gilt. The reverse shows an intact upright copper shank and makers mark of “W.H. Jones & Co. * Extra *.” There is a mold seam across the entire back and a couple of tiny discolored areas near the center that might clean up if desired. 22mm. | Here is another Beautiful Silver Plated ca. 1821-1830 US Artilleryman’s Coat Button! It’s a heavy one-piece button that still retains a good 90% + of its original silver plating on the front that really makes the eagle device stand out wonderfully. The –A- in the shield on the eagle’s chest is clearly visible as well. The reverse shows an upright intact copper shank and period quality mark of “Plated” over a wreath. 21mm. | Here is a Beautiful Non-Dug AY64 US Artillery Coat Button ! It’s the one-piece pattern that dates from 1821 to the 1830’s. Device is a spread wing eagle with the letter –A- in a shield on his breast. Button has probably 40% of its original gold gilt finish still intact with the remaining area being a nice smooth brown patina. The reverse show an intact upright copper shank and raised makers mark of “Robinsons * Extra *”. There is one tiny edge nick above the eagles’ head. 19mm. Here is a Fine MS27 1-Piece Massachusetts State Seal Button ! This button dates to the 1820’s-1830s, but is still in excellent condition, retaining most of its original gold gilt. The state seal with Massachusetts on a ribbon below, is all on a lined field and nicely detailed. | Here is a Beautiful Silver Plated NY10 One - Piece New York Militia Coat Button ! Though these date from the 1820s-1830, they aren’t uncommon. I haven’t personally seen that many silver plated examples though, mostly gold gilt ones. This button shows the device of an eagle on a globe, on a lined field with a wide border and the word “Excelsior” in an arc under the eagle. Button still retains at least 80-90% of its original silver plate and displays wonderfully. The reverse shows an 1820s quality mark of, “Imperial Standard + Superb”, and a good bit of its silver plate still present, as well as intact shank. | Here is Another Nice NY10 One-Piece New York Militia Coat Button ! As noted previously, though these date from the 1820s-1830, gilt examples aren’t uncommon. The device is an eagle atop a globe, on a lined field with a wide border and the word “Excelsior” in an arc under the eagle. Though this one appears more of a gold or gilt color in the photo, in hand it has a definite silver tone. Judging by the apparent remnants on the reverse, I think this one was also silver plated at one time but has lost much of its plating. The reverse also shows an 1820s quality mark of, “Imperial Standard + Superb”, and an intact shank with a bit of navy or black thread still tied around it. | Here is Another Fine Silver Plated NY12 One-Piece New York Vest Button ! In his book, Uniform Buttons of the United States 1776 – 1865, Warren K. Tice says these buttons were produced by British manufacturers between 1815 and 1830. This button also shows 95% or more of its original silver plate still present, with a small stain or discolored area at the left of the banner. Button is actually prettier in hand than in my picture though. The reverse shows a tight intact shank, quality mark of, “ Standard Gilt” between two boughs of laurel, and its own generous silver plate. 16mm. The device is a nicely detailed eagle at center with shield, the word “Cadet” at top, and the letters “N.U.” at bottom. Here is a Beautiful Coat Size Button made for the 1840 Presidential Campaign of William Henry Harrison ! The front shows 98% plus of its original lustrous gold gilt finish with no damage, cracks, or scratches of any sort. The device is a log cabin with a man inside the door beside a barrel, and around the edges the words, “Harrison & Reform.” The reverse shows a nicely intact upright shank and the maker’s mark of “R & W Robinson” inside a swallow tail banner with an eagle at the ends of the banner. Here is a Beautiful Dug Coat Size Button for the 1840 Presidential Campaign of William Henry Harrison ! Often seen in non-dug condition, the more common examples of these buttons sell for $100 to $150 each. However, the buttons are much less common in good excavated condition, and this one is Fine ! It shows no pushes, cracks, or damage to the front and about 30-40% of its original gold gilt still present, superbly highlighting the device. That device is a log cabin in a grass field, with a hard cider barrel out front, and as I say displays beautifully with the gilt highlights. The remaining metal shows a nice green patina. Though I failed to capture it in my photographs, the reverse has a legible raised maker’s mark of ”Ives Kendrick & Co. Extra”, and also shows an intact upright shank. Here is a Beautiful Dug AY38 US 3rd Regiment of Artillery Coat Button ! The device is a fancy script -A- over an oval with the number 3 inside it. Both front and back show a smooth dark reddish patina, with a few areas of darker green, and very little ground action. The detail on the front is excellent. The reverse shows a blank back with shank missing in action as is often the case with these buttons. 20mm. Recovered in South Carolina. A Great Displaying 3rd Regiment of Artillery Coat Button dating 1813-1814, or the War of 1812 !

Here is a Beautiful Non-Dug AY57 Artillery Coat Button ! It's a one-piece militia button patterned after the 1802-1821 US Artillery Corps button. The device is an eagle sitting on top of an artillery piece with a stack of cannon balls under the muzzle, and the word CORPS at bottom. This example has 99% of its original gold gilt intact and lustrous. There are no dark areas on the button they are just shadows from my photography. The reverse shows an intact upright copper shank and maker's mark of "W.H. Jones & Co. * Extra *." One small scratch thru "Co." to mention but it doesn't keep the mark from being entirely legible. There is also a noticeable mold seam. 22mm. A Fine Example of an Early Artillery Corps Button !
