Beautiful Patina on this Pre-Civil War/Civil War Period Clamshell Powder Flask |
Here is a Fine Looking Pre-Civil War to Civil War Period Clam Shell design Powder Flask ! It sports the prettiest deep, dark coppery brown patina over the entire body that really shows its age ! The main body measures 6.5 inches long, by about 3.5 inches at its widest point, with a 1.25 inch long spout at top. The spout very much resembles that on a “Peace” flask, with a large opening, and four rotating positions, that still function. The powder door spring is still good and operates correctly with the thumb button as well. There are two splits in the main body, one at the bottom about 1.5 inches long, and another on the right side about the same length. Both can be seen in the pictures. I see no maker’s marks anywhere, but this flask is likely intended for rifle or musket. Just a Superb Displaying Old Powder Flask with that Beautiful Patina ! [ L.L. ]

Fine All Soldered Rectangular Powder Tin |
| Here is a Nice Condition Civil War Era Powder Tin ! Construction entirely of all soldered tin, including the soldered tin cap, it has a diamond shape embossed on the front and back panels, and a double collar inside the spout. The diamond shape likely indicates that the contents were once Curtis & Harvey Diamond Grain Powder. The Du Pont Museum collection says that the business was established about 1820, in London, and closed in 1898. The construction of this can indicates manufacture as early as the mid-1800s though. The can measures about 5.25 inches tall to the top of the cap, 3.0 inches wide, and 1.25 inches deep. A Fine Displaying Civil War Ear Soldered Tin Powder Can !
