Nice PA48 French Chasseur Button For 83rd Pennsylvania or 18th Massachusetts Uniform |
|
| Here is a Fine One Piece White Metal PA48 Pennsylvania Chasseur Button ! These buttons were worn on the French Chasseur Uniforms that General McClellan awarded to the 83rd Pennsylvania and 18th Massachusetts Infantry regiments, for best drill at a review. The button features an eagle with shield device at center, clutching arrows and laurel in his claws, with an arc of thirteen stars above him. The field behind is smooth and there is a raised border at the edge. The reverse shows a very strong looking integral cast shank, and a raised maker’s mark of, “ Cordier Freres Paris.” The metal is somewhat soft and there are several small gouges, one on the edge of the shield, and a couple on the raised border, and one on the reverse of the border. Overall though, this button still displays quite well, showing its age with a dirty, dark patina. An Unusual Cast One Piece Pennsylvania or Massachusetts Coat Button !
