Here is a crisp Cdv Image of a US Sergeant Major, who was
photographed in Little Rock, Arkansas ! He would have been
the Senior Enlisted man in his regiment, often receiving his orders
directly from the Colonel or Commanding Officer. With only ONE
Sergeant Major in a regiment, images of these soldiers are much
less common than your average Private or NCO ! Subject is seated
with his arms over the chair, and appears quite young. Single row
of large buttons on his coat, and obviously visible Rank Stripes.
Mount has double gold line border and corners heavily trimmed
to fit in an album. Reverse shows uncommon Photographer's mark
of " Bankes Gallery of Photographic Art, S.E. Cor. Main &
