To start at the beginning ......... we finally got some short
grass, and moisture in the soil in late November, and started
looking around for a spot to relic hunt. Took an old friend
out to a hard hunted camp in late November, and felt kinda
guilty. He found "camp lead", and I dug 1- 3 ring .69 bullet, &
an 1842 Combo Musket tool. Apologized for getting the few
goodies left at that site, and a week later, took same friend,
[Gordon McCain] and friend Tom Bowen, out to a different site.
WELL, Heck, got over that apologizing thing right off the bat,
when Gordon came over with a super nice "Cove Creek Minie",
or Texas Troop Bullet ! Then Tom came over with a couple of
Baby Belgians, and I thought to myself, " Why in the world do I
bring other folks out out to " My " Missouri State Guard Camp !
Well, to make a long story short, over the next couple of weeks,
it only went downhill, or uphill, from there, depending on how
you look at it ! Gordon dug a couple of beautiful unlisted .58
caliber Dimmick bullets and an 1853-O Half Dime, then a week
later hunting with Wendell Evans, I dug an 1855-O seated half.
A week later Wendell and I, hit the same area and I dug
ANOTHER seated half, same date and mint mark. Gordon,
Wendell, [My regular diggin buddy ] and myself all dug good
bullets, though nothing in quanity.
Less than two weeks ago, Wendell and I, went to a different
site, and BY GOLLY, if Wendell didn't dig a nice Lousiana cuff
button, and then 20 minutes later a nice Borman Fuse, and
another 20 minutes later, a Second Louisiana Pelican cuff !
I AIN'T TAKING HIM NOWHERE ANYMORE ! . . LOL . .
Returning to the site with my cousin Bob Thomas a few days
later, I dug an 1856 Half Dime, but no more Pelicans. Next
day Bob, Wendell, and myself, scanned the same area one
more time, finding a few bullets, but I lucked onto another
Half Dime, this time 1857-O.
It's been real fun seeing everyone dig nice artifacts,
and the neat historic stuff that's come out of the ground.
I'm afraid I'm personally spoiled though, after diggin
seated silver nearly every time out. It's gonna be tough
getting back to my regular fare, of square nails, camp
lead, and the occasional musket ball !! . . LOL . .
