You've seen some of the relics dug by Mr. Doug Dorothy
on here before, but goodness here is another Fine Example !
Doug discovered a pre-war house site here in Benton County, Ark.,
some time ago, and has hunted it hard, along with Jack Ferguson.
They dug over 2 dozen flat/coin buttons, spur pieces, harmonica,
oil lamp parts, large cents, and more. Jack dug a cuff size early
pewter US script -I- Infantry button but Doug found the prize
of the whole site, this beautiful Confederate Manuscript -I-
Infantry button !! Blank backmark, but shank intact ! Good
Grief, WHY don't those boys wanna take their Favorite local
dealer diggin' with em' !?!? . . . lol . .

You may have seen that Nice reconstructed "groundburst"

Borman fused 12-pndr. on the Home page. Recovered by Matt

Longwith a while ago, and put back together beautifully !

Recently, he's been back in the same area picking  around, and

rewarded for his curiousity. A few days ago he called and said

snooping around the same area had again been fruitful ! This

time he dug a completely intact Borman Fused 12-Pounder

Shell/Case shot ! God Bless Matt, he deserves it ! Shell looks

wonderful, nice iron, and partially readable numbers on the

fuse, and I suspect it is going to clean up superbly !

WAY TO GO MATT ! Call me ANYTIME you need a partner !

To start at the beginning  .........  we finally got some short

grass, and moisture in the soil in late November, and started

looking around for a spot to relic hunt. Took an old friend

out to a hard hunted camp in late November, and felt kinda

guilty. He found "camp lead", and I dug 1- 3 ring .69 bullet, &

an 1842 Combo Musket tool. Apologized for getting the few

goodies left at that site, and a week later, took same friend,

[Gordon McCain] and friend  Tom Bowen, out to a different site.

WELL, Heck, got over that apologizing thing right off the bat,

when Gordon came over with a super nice "Cove Creek Minie",

or Texas Troop Bullet !  Then Tom came over with a couple of

Baby Belgians, and I thought to myself, " Why in the world do I

bring other folks out out to " My " Missouri State Guard Camp !

Well, to make a long story short, over the next couple of weeks,

it only went downhill, or uphill, from there, depending on how

you look at it ! Gordon dug a couple of beautiful unlisted .58

caliber Dimmick bullets and an 1853-O Half Dime, then a week

later hunting with Wendell Evans, I dug an 1855-O seated half.

A week later Wendell and I, hit the same area and I dug

ANOTHER seated half, same date and mint mark. Gordon,

Wendell, [My regular diggin buddy ] and myself all dug good

bullets, though nothing in quanity.

Less than two weeks ago, Wendell and I, went to a different

site, and BY GOLLY, if Wendell didn't dig a nice Lousiana cuff

button, and then 20 minutes later a nice Borman Fuse, and

another 20 minutes later, a Second Louisiana Pelican cuff !

I AIN'T TAKING HIM NOWHERE ANYMORE !  . . LOL . .

Returning to the site with my cousin Bob Thomas a few days

later, I dug an 1856 Half Dime, but no more Pelicans. Next

day Bob, Wendell, and myself, scanned the same area one

more time, finding a few bullets, but I lucked onto another

Half Dime, this time 1857-O.

It's been real fun seeing everyone dig nice artifacts,

and the neat historic stuff that's come out of the ground.

I'm afraid I'm personally spoiled though, after diggin

seated silver nearly every time out. It's gonna be tough

getting back to my regular fare, of square nails, camp

lead, and the occasional musket ball !!   . . LOL . .

January 6th, 2012, We changed campsites, and Wendell showed his disgust at having to previously watch me dig two seated halves, by digging two Lousiana Cuff Buttons, and a nice Borman fuse, in short order ! What's that they say, "Payback is Hell ! " .... lol . ..

January 8th, with Bob Thomas I tried to catch up diggin an 1856 Half Dime, and would follow up the next day hunting with Bob Thomas & Wendell Evans, and recovering an 1857-O Half Dime. BUT, I AIN'T FOUND a 3rd Louisiana Infantry Pelican Button YET ! Hopefully, still be some good hunting days this winter .
